Client: Clearwater Hydro

photoProject: Hydro Scheme Taumarunui

Equipment:  RTK GPS / Total Station
Description:
Route centre-line GPS Survey & topographical survey of river bed for 500m

Clearwater Hydro Ltd has, over the past 2 years, engaged us to conduct topographical and as-built surveys of proposed and existing hydro-electric power schemes.

These schemes typically are up to 3 MW Output and are located in the King Country & Gisborne areas of New Zealand.

Acquiring GPS equipment has dramatically changed the way we do these surveys and makes it easier to determine levels over a large area quickly and accurately.

Outcome: We have completed 3 surveys so far for Clearwater and very much look forward to serving them in the future

Project:  Ohau Channel Diversion – 2007-2008

Location:  Lakes Rotoiti – Rotorua
Task:
Provision of control GPS calibrations & installation. Data management & advice on barge navigation & positioning options.

Environment BOP, in conjunction with the Rotorua District Council, has recently built a wall to divert the flow from the Ohau Channel (outflow from Lake Rotorua) into the Kaituna River.

Lake Rotoiti has for years suffered from contamination from this outflow, so engineers were commissioned to design a wall to minimise this contamination.

HEB Smithbridge won the contract to build the wall and they sub-contracted LMS to provide geodetic survey control & advise them of navigation options for barge positioning.

Sokkia GPS agents Optical Services Ltd of Auckland assisted with GPS equipment and training and we worked in conjunction with both parties to help make it all happen.

The tasks were:

  • Provision of survey control and GPS calibration or localisation within this network
  • Determination of a HT overhead power cable catenary for barge / crane operation limits to be determined
  • Initial setup of barge for both borehole testing & wall piling initiation

Outcome: This project has been a successful one for all parties and we are proud to be associated with it and enjoyed the excellent working relationships established!

Client: Canmap Hawley / Hickey Contractors Ltd, Rotorua

photoProject:  Burger King – Fairy Springs Rd -  Rotorua

Tasks:

  • Setting out of building, kerbs & site services
  • As-Builts of installed services

We were invited by Canmap Hawley (Rotorua) to provide setting out services to Hickey Contractors who were contracted to provide civil works for the Burger King & AA Building located at the corner of Fairy Springs & Fergusson Place – Rotorua.

The contract was a success, being on-time & budget and the works foremen were impressed with the accuracies obtained.  One particular day the tilt-slabs were installed on the AA building and the project engineer had allowed over a day for this work.  The pains that we went to, to achieve the high set-out accuracy, paid off as all slabs were installed in a 4 hour period!

We are proud to have been part of this successful project.
